Staycation Itinerary

Cork, the real capital of Ireland(!) has so much to see and do. Check out what we have planned for you below.

Day 1

Morning:

Visit the English Market, just a few minutes walk from the hotel, one of Cork’s most popular attractions and the most famous food market in Ireland. Enjoy a coffee and a cake in the café overlooking the buzz of the bustling market.

Afternoon:

Blarney Castle & Gardens is another famous Cork experience on our doorstep. Don’t forget to kiss the Blarney Stone when you’re there!

Evening:

For a true authentic Cork experience, head to MacCurtain Street, one of Cork’s oldest streets and #PureCork bars. This street is where the locals go and offers a selection of old-style Cork bars but also modern, contemporary restaurants and eateries. Perfect for a great night out in Cork!

Day 2

Morning:

Take a trip to Cobh and hop on a ferry to Spike Island, formerly the world’s largest prison. Today you can explore the museums and see what prison life looked like, beautiful scenic walks, child-friendly areas, cafés and more. Voted Ireland’s leading tourist attraction in 2017!

Afternoon:

No trip to Cobh is complete without a trip to the Titanic Experience in the town, where the final passengers for the Titanic’s maiden voyage would have boarded.

Evening:

After a busy day, relax and dine in our Grain & Grill Restaurant before heading into the city centre. Enjoy one of the many gigs on offer in the busy Cork bars or enjoy some cocktails in one some of Cork’s finest cocktail bars, stay going and hit one of the many lively nightclubs, all on our doorstep!

Day 3

Morning:

After a late night, why not relax and treat yourself to a spa treatment in our sister hotel Clayton Hotel Cork City Essence Spa.

Afternoon:

Hit the road and visit the picturesque town of Kinsale and spend the afternoon wandering the beautiful streets and take a trip to Charles Fort Castle.

Evening:

No trip to Cork is complete without a trip to the shops! Late night shopping in Opera Lane, just a 4-minute walk from the hotel, is a must with shops such as River Island, H&M and more available here.

Day 4

Morning:

Feeling like exploring the Wild Atlantic Way? Head to Bantry to Bantry Bay Boat Hire, rent your own speed boat, kayaks or even experience a seafood tour in Bantry Bay!

Afternoon:

While in Bantry, why not take the ferry to Whiddy Island and do one of the many walks around the island or visit the famous Garnish Island just a short drive away.

Evening:

After a busy day, relax in the hotel’s Bells Bar with some drinks and local craft beer or cocktails and enjoy a taste of Cork evening meal.

Day 5

Morning:

Visit one of Cork’s top attractions, Fota Wildlife Park, not just for kids! Unlike any ordinary zoo, whenever possible the animals roam free, mixing with other species and us humans! Fota Wildlife Park is just a short drive from Maldron Hotel Shandon Cork City and consistently voted one of Ireland’s best visitor attractions. Please note that pre-booking your visit to the park is now essential.

Afternoon:

Visit the beautiful Fota House & Gardens nearby, free of charge. Why not have some lunch in the popular Bakestone Café.

Evening:

Fitzgerald Park, 10-minute walk from the hotel, is situated on the picturesque bank of the River Lee. Enjoy the 18 acres of manicured gardens and enjoy free evening open-air concerts throughout the summer. Bring a picnic to enjoy or visit the Natural Foods Café at Fitzgerald Park. You can also visit the Cork Public Museum on-site for free and see Dermot Gavin’s Sky Garden creation.
